How do you recharge?

Most of us think we are unwinding when we watch TV, play video games, use the Internet or even listen to music. The truth is that while all of these pleasurable entertaining activities help us escape our stress-filled situations they do not actually help us truly unwind and recharge.

Consider this:

Have you ever gone to pull out a piece of jewelry only to find that your necklaces or bracelets are all tangled? In order to wear that piece of jewelry what would you have to do? You are going to have to take the time to unravel all of the tangled pieces.

Life is the same way.

You cannot turn on your favorite music or TV station and think it is helping you untangle your jewelry. But when it comes to our tangled up life we sit down in front of the TV or internet and expect it to help us “unwind”, “recharge” and “relax”. It’s just not possible. When life becomes tangled you have to actively engage in unwinding. You have to set aside time to recharge, by addressing the problem. For many of us that’s annoying to even think about. We just want to be left alone to watch our favorite program and forget about our problems. We don’t want to address it. We just want to escape or go numb. But remember that deflection is not the same as recharging.

Truth is:

Recharging is the active practice of setting time aside to address problems, to relax, be still, unwind and untangle in a healthy way. Recharging should be apart of everyone’s life. It’s how you stay in balance. Imagine how much more balanced you would be if you spent 15 minutes everyday just focusing on recharging. Unplug from everything and empty your mind. That’s what your body REALLY craves. It craves for you to unplug from the outer world and plug-in to your mind, body and spirit. A consistent practice of this will drastically help you become more balanced and at peace in life.
