If you are struggling in your personal or professional lives – or even somewhere in between, you can will begin to experience a hardship that feels like it’s just too much to handle. Do sit down and do nothing or travel a road that’s scary but feels like the right thing to do?
In order to break the cycle of stressful, overwhelming thoughts, you need to talk with someone to establish a better sense of reality. Counseling services more commonly referred to as “therapy,” is an open, non-judgmental space to work through problems or challenges. During this time, you will learn new coping skills, ways to deal with your feelings, and strategies for managing stress. You can also explore thoughts that you might not say out loud to a friend or family member.
Generally, what you say to your therapist will remain private. Therapists know that in order to be comfortable sharing very personal information, you need trust that anything you share will stay between the two of you. There are a few exceptions to this rule to keep you and others safe and these rules will be discussed during your first session.
