What to know how to be a Brain Warrior by eating food? Read below . . .

Harvest season is upon us and that means Thanksgiving is in full swing. 👨🏼‍🌾👩🏽‍🌾

Many people don’t know that food can actually boost your mood, focus, motivation and memory — but more on that in a second.

When you think of it, it’s always Thanksgiving (a proper time to give thanks).

You have been given so much to be grateful for in life, health, mindfulness, spirit and body. 🧘🏻‍♀️

But I have a confession . . .

I LOVE eating during this time of the year (really any time of the year) 😋. If you’re like me you love home cooked meals. 🥦

But did you know communal eating, preparing food with loved ones and feeding your friends or family can be an important social activity?

You know the saying, “Birds of a feather, flock together”?

Social relationships have known to have a profound impact on finances, career success and health and longevity.

The same is true with social eating. 👨🏽‍🍳

Just remember – FOOD can alter your mood. 🤹🏿‍♀️

It’s not just food alone, but it’s the act of sharing food with others, the laughs, the conversation, the togetherness – it does something to your mental health. It boost your feelings of comfort, joy, closeness and love. It’s not the actually food alone that makes you feel this way (though it does give you a boost!) it is the environment + food.

Now if I really wanted to dive into how the food affects you. I would discuss how you should treat your body as a temple. You should honor yourself by monitoring the food entering into your body.

I would encourage you to rethink S.O.U.L food as:

  • Sustainable
  • Organic
  • Unadulterated
  • Locally grown

I would also encourage you to know that just like humans, animals release different chemicals in their bodies when they feel relaxed, happy, approachable, stressed, depressed and angry. 🐖

While those are true statements, it is the less glamorous side health and wellness.

Ultimately, it is my desire that you think of food and communal eating as a spiritual and mental-health-positive practice. Even a sacred practice. 🧘🏾‍♂️

Give thanks for the food you have but also take a much more thoughtful approach to who you eat with, the energy you have when you are around others and of course the raising, gathering and consuming of food.

Food can carry energy and so does the environments we eat food in. Like us therapists at Honor Your Emotions will explore the cabinets of your mind to help you clean them of the toxic or unhelpful memories. Take this approach to your kitchen this season.

Take inventory of any unhealthy or toxic food, people and environments. Bring mindfulness to your eating and eating environments.

When you do this, you will see that you have boosted your mood, focus, motivation and memory.

Food should serve you. 🍯
